Machine available: punching machine Hydraulic 280 of the Peddinghaus standard ironworkers line.

Applications in steel construction

The tube notching tool is a fourfold special fixture used to notch tube ends for 90-degree connections on the punching machine. The notched contour conforms to the mating tube, so that the tubes can subsequently be welded cleanly. A lug on the tool additionally creates a zinc drainage opening, important on hot-dip galvanized structures.

What is the lug for the zinc drainage opening for?

On hot-dip galvanized structures, excess zinc must be able to drain out of the hollow section. The lug of the tool creates an additional opening at the notched tube end through which the zinc escapes. The tool is also available in a version without a lug.

Why notch tubes instead of just cutting them to length?

For a clean 90-degree connection, the tube end must conform to the curvature of the mating tube. Notching creates this contour, so that the tubes sit against each other with a minimal gap and can be welded well.

On which machine does the tool run?

The tool is designed for use on the Peddinghaus punching machine, for example the Hydraulic 280, and is supplied complete with tube notching punches and dies.
